How To Find Your Diecast Models Right Headers
Cat Street Trucks Have Arrived
These are the first new Cat street trucks I have seen in the province.(Feb.3 2012) They were parked in front of Atlantic Cat dealership in Dartmouth, NS. Ori...
Stock exhaust systems normally confine the flow of exhaust gases out of your engine. This prevents your engine from reaching its full power potential. You can get back lost horsepower when you replace your stock exhaust components with less-restrictive performance exhaust parts.

The earliest exhaust components to handle spent exhaust gases from your engine are the exhaust manifolds or headers. The stock manifolds are limiting, but a set of mandrel-bent aftermarket headers will let the exhaust gas to be in motion freely from the engine, decreasing power-robbing backpressure in the process. Also, a fine set of headers will put up up sufficient exhaust flow velocity to give energy pulses that pull or search spent gases from the engine.

One of the main factors you need to consider in selecting a set of headers is the diameter of the primaries. Primaries are the pipes that connect directly to the exhaust ports. There are many elements that go into selecting the correct pipe diameter. These elements would include engine size, horsepower, intended use of the vehicle, and others. The one common fault that many hot rodders make is to assume that bigger is better. This is not always the case.

Even though smaller diameter primaries will flow smaller volume than bigger primaries, a smaller diameter pipe really creates faster exhaust flow velocity with just sufficient resistance to promote good low and midrange torque. With that, most header manufacturers suggest reserved pipe diameters for street applications—1 ½” to 1 5/8” diameter primaries for a small block engine, usually.

Headers also come in a variety of dimensions and configurations for specialty applications. Such would include fenderwell, dragster, and circle track headers. Full-length headers uses primary tubes that are longer than the primaries on your stock exhaust manifold. The longer primaries lower the opportunity of escaping gases getting drawn back into another pip.
