Make sure you use a relevant and unique meta description and title on every page of your website. The web page title is the most important on-page SEO element and it is almost impossible to rank highly in search engine results, without two or three keywords making up the web page title. Although the meta description tag will not help you to rank, it does appear as a text snippet under your listing in search results, so it has the power to influence whether or not searchers visit your website.

Determine if the keywords you are using in your site are conducive to internet searches. You can test this with any "pay-per-click" search engine. Type in your keywords and see how many other people are searching for those terms. Play around with your vocabulary, and see if you can get a key phrase that contains words that most people will search for. When you modify your keywords using this method, more people will find your site using a search engine.

If you plan to retire or change your URL try to use a 301 redirect. This code is beneficial. The 404, or "Page Not Found" code can be damaging. A code 301 will tell your various search engines where they should transfer your old URLs search engine results page position to.
